'A LOVE LETTER TO THE BEATLES'
‘A Love Letter To The Beatles’ is a feel-good film whose title perfectly captures its spirit. This two-hour independent feature documentary has been crowdfunded and made entirely by fans around the world, uniting people who love and in many cases, ‘live’ The Beatles. Filmmaker Simon Weitzman began his eight-year odyssey in 2017, aiming to capture the passionate, global fan community that had quickly come to feel like family to him. The film tells the story of how this dedicated family keeps The Beatles’ legacy burning bright, creating a very special collective love letter to the band, here, there, and everywhere.
About Fan Film
The film has been made through Simon’s company, Fan Film Ltd, which he runs with fellow Beatles fans, David L. Simon (one of the world’s great movie studio bosses), Stuart Everett (a lifelong Beatles fan and former senior accountant) and Keith McCallum (who was a lifelong fan, also a senior accountant and who sadly passed away at the end of 2023). We would like to say a huge thank you to all the fans who helped make this film a reality. It was a very long journey but we have been immensely appreciative of your patience and support throughout. It has genuinely been a global Beatles fan family effort.
THE STORY BEHIND THE FILM'S POSTER
The film artwork was commissioned to be hand painted in the style of the original Beatles gig posters that were created by Liverpool signwriter Tony Booth, as commissioned by Brian Epstein in the early 1960s.
The artist behind the film poster, a signpainter and graphic designer based in Liverpool, Emily Salinas, says “I actually had my own connection to Tony since I met him back in 2016, through being at the same art studio with his son, Lee, and it was meeting him that gave me the impetus to pick up a brush and paint my first poster - which was actually a tribute poster to Tony done in his distinctive style.
So this job for the film has been a little full circle for me as I'm back, 9 years later doing another poster tribute to Tony Booth - though hopefully a little better this time!”
